Osmosis Does Narcolepsy

This video by Osmosis on Youtube is probably the best explanation of narcolepsy that I’ve seen so far! The only thing they get wrong is they leave Xyrem off the list of medications that treat narcolepsy.

Check it out — you may want to share it with that person in your life who doesn’t believe narcolepsy exists. (Everybody knows that person!)

Change of Plans

Asturias, Spain. Won't be visiting here for a while!

Just a little life update: unfortunately, I will not be able to return to Spain this fall and spend another year there. This is the fault of bureaucratic incompetence on the Spanish side of things, long story short. I was definitely bummed about that, but I’ve got plenty of other stuff going on in my life now, so it’s really not a big deal. After all, how many people get the chance to live abroad for even one year? (Even if that year was more like six months and was chock-full of disabling narcolepsy… It was still a great experience, and I’m glad I went!)

I have decided that I’m going to become a physician assistant (PA). For a while I was thinking about being a doctor/neurologist, but honestly everything about being a PA is a better fit for me. I’m currently taking pre-requisite courses for PA school (because wouldn’t you know it, a degree in Psychology and Spanish is not exactly heavy in the sciences) and working on getting CNA certification so that I can start working at a hospital.

I reeeeally want to become a sleep tech at a sleep clinic, and I think that would be so fun, but I’m not sure if shift work is compatible with narcolepsy, even though I’m on Xyrem now. I’ll probably give it a try anyways, worst that can happen is I crash and burn (like I did in Spain! Haha).

I am definitely going to keep writing on this blog, so you will hear of new events as they develop. 🙂
